Game Designer and co-founder Jakob Porser is answering questions about the upcoming card-based combat game, and is looking very happy with their overall progress - admitting that the AI was so good, it often beat him at his own game.
More importantly, though, is that he’s confident that following the Minecraft sales model will lead to success:
Mojang’s main success, Minecraft, is famous for racking up millions in sales during its beta stages - with promises that beta-testers would get the full version of the title later. True to his word, Notch gave everyone involved a free full edition of the game upon release, effectively meaning they were able to purchase it at a discounted rate. While Mojang will always remain in the spotlight for Minecraft’s success, many are wondering if their reputation can help them in regards to other projects, like Scrolls and 0x10c.
The game will get some fierce competition from Blizzard’s recently announced Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft digital card game, which looks very similar in terms of play styles. It’s also approaching beta soon, so gamers will be able to judge for themselves which title they’d prefer to own.
When the beta begins, players can head over to the official website to purchase the game at a discounted rate.
Scrolls will release on PC first, and then Mojang will begin working on a Mac edition of the title for their Apple-based fans. For those gaming from a Linux, the studio is also considering releasing scrolls on the platform - but those talks are still in progress.
We’ll let you know when the official beta opening date is announced.
